A Brief History of East Wing
East Wing began in October 2013 as part of the Buddhist chaplaincy work of Dr Jan Gentaku Mojsa (a local Westbury resident, psychotherapist and practitioner of Zen Buddhism). Jan studied chaplaincy with Roshi Joan Halifax and Roshi Bernie Glassman who inspired Zen Peacemaker International. East Wing also carries that simple intention – to be of service. In doing that, we place relationship at the heart of our work.
Our work continually unfolds. We collect food for the food bank for members of the community who require a hand at difficult times. We offer mindfulness meditation, yoga, Tai Chi and Reiki as a resource of well-being and help at times of anxiety and stress. We also offer therapeutic support through our counselling and psychotherapy service. We are home to an organic food co-operative where we are able to work together to offer affordable and sustainable food. We see our community as far and wide. Since 2016 we have delivered aid to refugees in Calais.
For those more specifically interested in meditation, we have a regular sitting group – The East Wing Sangha – a community of spiritual friends who meet every fortnight on a Sunday afternoon. Details of all of these and other events at East Wing can be found under ‘What’s On’.
