Counselling and Psychotherapy

We are here to Listen

We offer free and low cost counselling and psychotherapy for people across the community. We have a counsellor who is specially trained in working with young people.

Our practitioners are committed to psychological healing and mental ‘wealth’. As a team we work together co-operatively and as such support each other’s development as accomplished practitioners. For more information about our team, please click here.

Mindfulness Meditation and Sitting Practice

Mindfulness is simply about raising our awareness of what we are experiencing right here and right now.

Taking time out of our busy lives we sit, notice our breath, our thoughts, what we hear around us, the sensations within our bodies without striving to change anything. We do this with kindness and compassion towards ourselves.

Many people who practice mindfulness talk about how they feel better equipped to deal with the ups and downs of life. They experience life fully, as it is. It can help us to manage stress and anxiety, improve our relationships and boost the immune system.

We offer an occasional one day ‘Mindfulness Saturday’. This is a good introduction to using mindfulness for well-being. On the day you will learn and experience a number of practices with time to talk about how this feels for you AND any support you need for developing your own practice. We are also able to offer 8 week Mindfulness Courses.

The Listening Project

The listening project is our response to the loneliness that arose out of the Covid crisis. Recognising that with increased isolation our sense of safety, connection and general well being becomes impacted in many acute ways. But of course it’s not just about Covid. We think the crisis pointed to the lack of connection that can exist in communities. The listening project is developing a network of trained listeners – people especially good at simply ‘being there’ who can offer the simple connection of listening. We offer ‘walk and talk’ - an opportunity to chat as well as taking in nature. We have many fine walking places in Westbury. We also have many fine caring people who want to make a difference and share the simple treasure of a listening ear and heart

East Wing Sitting Group

The sitting group meets every 2 weeks on a Sunday afternoon between 3 and 5pm, led by Gentaku (Jan Mojsa) a Zen novice priest. Meditation instruction is always given if anyone is unsure.

East Wing is affiliated with Stonewater Zen and Zen Peacemakers International.

Our format for the afternoon is simple. We engage in meditation for an hour – both sitting and walking. This is followed by a discussion, inspired by an essay or article chosen for its interest and study point. They often focus on compassionate engagement and how to apply some of these ideas and contemplations in day to day living. The group (or Sangha, as it’s known in Zen) is continually engaged in a number of compassionate community projects. If you would like to be on our mailing list please email us.
